This article goes over the E-Comp setup process for sending files to E-Comp for Processing.
E-Comp enables clients to calculate their worker's comp premiums based on their actual payroll wages.
Steps:
1) Add the Work Comp Carrier, Policy, and Codes.
Payroll Setup > Workers Comp > Carriers - Add Carrier
Name the Carrier, Save and Add the EINs
Add the Policy(s) [One per state]
Assign the Policy Name, Number, Dates, Earning List, Yearly Wage Limit, Policy Codes, and EINS.
Common Questions:
- Pay As You Go? - This setting is not needed.
- Vendor Setup?- This is not needed as E-Comp will receive the files and initiate ACH processing on their end.
- Effective Dates? - Extend the end date out as far as possible so the policy doesn't stop. (i.e. 2079)
- Earnings/Deductions? - Best practice if the client has no exempt earnings is to leave this blank. Only populate this list should there be reason to exempt certain earnings, i.e. tips.
See E-COMPs guide below for determining which earnings to include exclude and state exceptions. - Include Premium Wage? - This should not be included.
- Yearly Wage Limit? - There is no limit, so this is set to zero.
- Rates? - Include the rate for recordkeeping, but it is not required.
2) Assign Codes to Employees (via cost center assignments or directly). Be sure this is also included in the client's hire process.
3) Configure the Work Comp Report. See file specs below.
A report template is available to copy over in FullTempPC2 to get started, if the company was not recently created from the model company.
Custom Columns to Configure as needed:
4) Enable Report Delivery Settings
If the company was created from Fulltemppc2 (after 7/1/2024), then a delivery policy already exists that can be assigned to deliver with payroll for the "currently being delivered" payroll. Verify the policy and delivery destination is SFTP.
If the company was created prior to 7/1/2024, then you'll want to setup a delivery policy as shown below:
TIP: You can recalculate the Workers Comp report by going to the payroll and resetting the LD, similar to recalculating the GL.

These videos are specific to UKG setup, however they make some mistakes in the report settings along the way and then later correct them in the video. Also, the column header names don't match the file specs, this doesn't really matter because the column headers are not included in the export.
