FAQ for questions on client responses to Applied for Reports
Q: “We do not and never have had employees or liabilities in that state.”A: Tax can be removed or set to inactive.
Q: “We have closed that state’s accounts”
A: Tax can be set to inactive
Q: “My employees do not make enough to qualify for withholding for that tax” (ex. OR Multnomah)
A: There are 2 options for this. Option 1: the tax can be set to ignore, but if they ever have an employee that does make enough, the tax will not automatically kick in to withhold. This means the client must track if an employee is getting close. Option 2: leave the tax as applied for on the report. This means if an employee makes enough, the tax will automatically withhold, just the tax will always show up on the report.
Q: “We do not have an employee(s) in that area.” (ex Metro Support OR)
A: Review with the client that there are no employees working or living in the area. Set the tax to inactive if there are no active employees in that area.
Q: "Can you help us register for this tax?"
A: Yes! Registration Services are available. Please see Knowledge Base
for more information.
