Middleware Installation instructions - Printer

  1. Download and Install the newest version of Java. This step is undocumented as Java frequently changes its installation steps. Please follow the instructions listed on the Java website. MIDDLEWARE WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT JAVA INSTALLED.
  2. Download middleware (MW.zip) from the following URL. It points to our System Analyst’s One-Drive Share - https://paynorthwest1-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/gbasile_paynorthwest_com/EiMdZaLErIpKh_2_XPnWebABgOdygvAC_5Wmy3x4OLpVtQ?e=WxTO0d

  3. Go to the download folder and copy the ZIP folder to someplace on your machine that will be easily remember/accessible. (We recommend the root of C:\)
  4. Unzip MW.zip in the directory. You should now see the unzipped MW folder.

  5. Open the MW folder. You may delete the MW.zip as long as the files extracted correctly. Inside the MW folder, you should see multiple other folders and batch files. We will be working with the batch files exclusively.
  6. Run “Start_MW_as_Application.bat” as administrator. It must be run as an administrator
  7. In the window that appears, on the left-hand side, you’ll see the Connection Information section. At the bottom of the section, press the  button.
  8. Enter the following information
    1. Description: Enter the description of this middleware. Please include your company ID and the location of the middleware.
Example: 123456 – John Smith Tractor Co – Redmond Warehouse
    2. WebApps Server: middleware.saashr.com
    3. WebApps Port: 443
    4. Proxy Information: BLANK IF NO PROXY SERVER
    5. Proxy User/Pass: BLANK IF NO PROXY SERVER
    6. Company ID: The ID number of your company
    7. Password: The middleware password.

  1. You should see the status change to “OK”. If it does not show OK, you should try the following troubleshooting steps.
    1. Ensure you entered your connection information correctly
    2. Check to ensure that the Middleware password has been set in your online system.
    3. Check your computers network connection.
    4. Review firewall rules.
    5. Restart your machine.
  2. If the status is “OK” you are now free to add a device. On the right hand side, press the  button to bring up the device configuration dialog.
  3. Enter the following Settings
    1. Name: Make this a unique easily identifiable name. Example: Check Printer in HQ office
    2. Time Zone
    3. Type: Scroll down and select “Printer”
  4. When you select “Printer”, additional configuration information will populate below. Please specify the printer you will be using and configure it to your specifications.
    1. NOTE: Printers added through group policy may experience issues. In order to ensure that the printer connects to the middleware, install the printer on the machine using the TCPIP address or hostname settings.
  5. When you are satisfied with the printer configuration, press the . Button.

  6. After you’ve added the printer, you will be sent back to the main screen. On the right hand side under Devices, you will see your printer device added. Press the check box next to the printer.

  7. You can test to see if the printer is working properly by pressing the  button and the pressing the  button. A test document should be sent to your printer.
  8. Now that you’ve successfully configured middleware, you’re going to need to install and start it up as a service. Close out of the WebApps Middleware window by pressing the  button in the upper right hand corner.
  9. Go back to your middleware folder and run “Install_and_Start_MW_Service.bat” as administrator.
  10. After it runs, close out of the cmd window and reboot the machine.
  11. You’re done! Middleware is now installed. Please note that when the computer reboots, the middleware configuration page won’t appear like it did during the configuration steps. This is because the middleware is now running as a “service” as opposed to an application. Don’t worry, you can check your running services for the HandPunchMW service. If you want to reconfigure your middleware, add a new printer or clock, you will need to stop the HandPunchMW service and then run the “Start_MW_as_Application.bat” file.
