What are NFC tags?
The functionality allows organizations to place NFC tags throughout the workplace via posters or flyers. When scanned, NFC tags will allow your people to conveniently launch routine tasks in the mobile app with the tap of a smartphone.
NFC tags can be programmed to launch:
- A time off request
- A leave of absence request
- A punch in or out of different areas of the workplace
- An attestation punch
Is it available to all UKG customers?
This functionality is available to all customers who have the time module.
How are NFC tags enabled?
To enable NFC tag functionality, navigate to Maintenance > Companies and enable NFC tags in the Available Functionality widget. Once this setting is enabled, you can view, create, delete, or edit NFC Tags from Global Setup > NFC tags.
Which NFC tags are recommended?
UKG recommends using NFC215 tags, as they are the most reliable, however, other NFC tags will work, but may run into limitations. NFC215 tags can be purchased online from a variety of merchants, such as Amazon.
What devices support NFC tag functionality?
Mobile smartphones are required for the use of NFC tags, as background scanning is required. Apple devices supported include:
- XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and likely any future models
Apple wearables, such as Apple Watches, are not supported.

Is any personal information stored on the NFC tags?
No personal information is stored since this functionality has been designed to use the login authentication from the app itself to verify the user. The only information stored on the NFC tag is the action that has been programmed to launch upon being scanned.
How do I troubleshoot an NFT tag?
Once you have purchased your NFC tags, you can use the app “NFC tools” to identify the tag type and review the information available on the tag.
